A Top Tech Movie List Wouldn't Be Complete Without....

The new Blade Runner movie coming out this year--Blade Runner 2049--is drawing lots of attention as its release date nears. (In case you missed some of the conversation: http://bit.ly/2tWm6Yb, http://bit.ly/2w2FOTs, http://bit.ly/2w31PBI.) Since it's release in 1982, the first Blade Runner has become a classic film and has influenced so many other films. Thinking about how much film technology has changed since then inspired me to share some of my favorite tech movies. Check out my list and add a comment with your favorite tech or sci-fi films!

Inception (2010)
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. It tells the story of a professional group of thieves who infiltrate the subconscious by breaking into people's dreams and stealing information or planting ideas.

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
It would feel sacrilegious not to include this epic Stanley Kubrick film that has inspired so many other films throughout the years. It covers themes of existentialism, human evolution, technology, artificial intelligence and extraterrestrial life.

Avatar (2009)
James Cameron's epic sci-fi film set in the mid 22nd century when humans are attempting to colonize Pandora, a habitable moon. Their goal of mining a mineral found on Pandora threatens the existence of an indigenous tribe.

The Matrix (1999)
A classic sci-fi film depicting a future where most humans have been captured by a race of machines that live off them and imprison their minds, making the humans believe that they live in a simulated reality.

WALL-E (2008)
My favorite animated robot love movie takes place in 2805, when Earth has turned into a garbage dump and humans are living in a space colony. The humans have become obese because of their complete reliance on technology to do everything for them.

The Social Network (2010)
Aaron Sorkin's script based on the book The Accidental Billionaires covers the creation of Facebook and the difficult relationships between the people who developed the idea. Less about amazing computer graphics and more about the true stories of the people creating technology.

Big Hero 6 (2014)
Another of my favorite animated movies, Big Hero 6 is about a group of young robotics geniuses who create a superhero team to fight an evil villain.

This list only covers some of my favorites, as there are so many amazing tech films out there. The film industry is constantly evolving and innovating, from the actual technology used to create movies to the portrayal of technology in movies. Many of the films I listed explore the relationship between humans and technology and some focus on the results of relying on technology too much.
